Kobudo

Kobudo - Kobudo (kō-boo-dō), the “way of weapons”, is the Okinawan defensive martial art that was developed by converting everyday farming and fishing tools into defensive weapons. The five traditional weapons taught in Okinawan Kobudo are the bo, sai, kama, tonfa and nunchaku. Kobudo training consists of learning the history of the weapons, basic techniques such as blocks, strikes and grappling with the weapons, weapons katas (forms), and weapon vs. weapon sparring drills. Kobudo study allows students to keep the ancient martial art alive, while at the same time giving them confidence in being able to defend against an attacker with a weapon.

Open to All Karate Students 9th Kyu & Up

TuiteTuite - Tuite (too-ē-teh), “to restrain an opponent by using only the hands”, is the ancient Okinawan art of using wrist, elbow, and arm locks to capture, throw and bring under control an attacker. Tuite is often called “grappling”; however, unlike most other grappling arts, Tuite contains very little ground grappling. Instead, the goal of Tuite is for the practitioner to stay standing and in control while the opponent is brought to the ground and submitted. Tuite is a very dynamic art; its techniques are meant to flow from one technique to another, each setting up the next, in order to submit an opponent. Tuite training is done with partners so that each develops the control and sensitivity necessary to render an attacker helpless but uninjured.

Open to Males and Females Ages 16 & Up

Aikido

Aikido - Aikido (ī-ˈkē-dō), the “way of spiritual harmony”, is a Japanese defensive martial art founded by Sensei Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). Aikido consists mainly of throws and joint locks and is ideal for defending against multiple attackers. Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. However, Aikido is not primarily a system of combat, but rather a means of self-cultivation and improvement. This is achieved by bring into harmony the techniques used to defend one’s self, concern for the well-being of the attacker, and steps to protect the attacker from injury. Aikido has no tournaments, competitions, contests, or "sparring." Instead, all aikido techniques are learned cooperatively at a pace commensurate with the abilities of each trainee.
